Steam has been one of the main ways to access video games for PC users in recent years. The huge catalog of the Valve platform has played a fundamental role when it comes to publicizing small independent projects that have managed to become authentic phenomena. It has even served as a social network and forum for millions of fans who have contrasted opinions and participated in debates focused on endless video games.
Given its importance, and its repercussion among users, it is understandable that I can use Steam as a reliable gauge of the popularity of the games. Although Valve does not publish the download figures on its blog, it does offer an annual selection with the 12 best-selling games in the so-called “Platinum” category.
We reviewed the most sold titles on Steam in the past years to verify that videogames have managed to conquer PC users. A list that could not miss productions as important as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the incombustible GTA V, but not some surprises as Football Manager 2016.
