Sega has surprised fans by announcing the last 12 games that will form the catalog of Mega Drive Mini to Tetris. It may seem somewhat anecdotal, since Tetris is a legendary game that has been adapted to virtually any platform capable of running it. Except for the 16-bit Sega console. But the game did come into existence, although a very limited number of cartridges was published.
Today, it is not known exactly how many Mega Drive Tetris cartridges exist, since the number varies from the 3 units to the ten. Fruit of the dance of licenses between Moscow and the different companies interested in taking control of the rights of the legendary Soviet puzzle, editions of Tetris like that of Mega Drive or those edited by Tengen in NES had to be withdrawn from the market. The Japanese cartridges originally produced were destroyed by such legal problems before the launch and only a handful of them survived. But what is certain is that, given its rarity, it is a much coveted by collectors and therefore its price is high.
The fate of these copies is little known for sure, since there are many stores and individuals that claim to have units that are actually reality, but they are produced in China. A Spanish collector came to ask for the high sum of one million dollars for a copy of the game signed by Alexei Pajitnov himself in a well-known auction website. Apparently ” shinsnk ” it came to reject several offers of more than $ 17,000, although it was not possible to verify the sale, the price or the seller.
Perhaps the visibility that this new Sega announcement rekindles the interest of collectors by this rarity, and that we will soon see new auctions like the new Super Mario Bros. cartridge that reached a record price.
