Fumito Ueda planned to stay in the video game industry for only a few years.
During a speech at the Croatian event Reboot Develop, Fumito Ueda (ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian ) has admitted that he never really thought about being a director or designer of video games , but actually went into this world for a reason much more mundane: he thought that he would have more success than in art, his true passion.
“Ueda never thought about going into videogames,” explains his translator. “When he graduated from college, he thought ‘I do not know if it’s going to be worth it, I do not know if making art is a realistic dream.’ In his mind, he thought ‘I’ll only be in the video game industry for a few years’ constantly”.
According to this confession, Ueda thought that his first video game would also be the last, which is why he decided to experiment with the artistic section. Of course, we all know that the story ended with several more games, and after each of them, the creative thought that he would finally leave his post. Even more curious is the fact that he did not get used to the idea that he would be simply and simply a videogame designer until only five years ago.
With more and less, Fumito Ueda has signed some of the most iconic works of the industry, to the point that Shadow of the Colossus was rescued on PS4 in the form of a remake. Now, genDESIGN is working on a new and mysterious title that will take less time to come out then The Last Guardian, and that will surprise the fans.
