For several months you can play on PC to Magic the Gathering: Arena, the most ambitious adaptation of the popular card game to the digital environment. However, it does not appear that Wizards of the Coast intends to stop here. Through a press release, Hasbro’s subsidiary announces that its next effort to continue expanding the franchise will be an animation series that will be broadcast on Netflix.
We still do not know how many chapters this series will have, but yes part of the staff has been revealed. In the position of executive producer are the brothers Russo, directors of Avengers: Endgame. Next to them they are Henry Gilroy (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (The Tick, Agent Carter), although these last ones will also direct the script. On the other hand, Yoriaki Mochizuki (artist in Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse) will supervise and co-produce the series.
The Magic: the Gathering series will feature a new story arc and expand the history of the Planeswalker, the powerful sorcerers that shape the game. Isaac Krauss, president of the Octopie animation studio, indicates that the series will have elements of suspense, horror and drama “with profoundly developed characters, which are not often seen in the world of animation”.
