Nintendo has made public the ruling that forces the MariCAR company to pay almost 50 million yen due to the use of Mario Kart for its unofficial exploitation. This company offered urban tours in karts using the commercial image of the Nintendo series of games, in true Mario Kart 8 style.
Despite showing clearly in their vehicles that it was not Nintendo’s official experience, the popularity of its services was enormous, especially thanks to its dissemination on social networks. MariCAR has been using the disguises and the claim of the Nintendo characters even during the legal process, but now this sentence will force the company to close, or reimagine its business model, distancing itself from any type of reference to Nintendo.
MariCAR has been involved in several accidents, caused damage to urban furniture and other vehicles, and even a scene from the Grand Theft Auto series, when a tourist left the circuit set up with one of the karts and staged to chase with the police after running over to cyclist and causing damage to public roads.
