Sony Pictures Television is working on a real-action television series that aims to adapt the successful Final Fantasy role series for the small screen. As reported by US media, the production would fall into the hands of Hivemind Entertainment, involved in the adaptation of The Witcher and the sci-fi saga The Expanse, as well as Square Enix, publisher of the saga.
More details? Some. The script will be written by Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton and will transfer to the viewers ” a conflict between magic & technology ” set in Eorzea, the fantastic land that serves as the setting for Final Fantasy XIV, in “a mission to bring peace to a world at war.” The information advances that there will be new and familiar faces like some of the incarnations of Cid, as well as other classic elements of the franchise such as magitek, beasts, airships and chocobos.
Release date? A mystery. Neither has been given clues about where the series could be issued, but with Apple, AT & T WarnerMedia, Netflix and a host of streaming platforms will not be short of brides to the show if it ends up moving in the right direction. It will join other projects related to the industry such as the Halo series developed for Showtime, which is scheduled to start this summer.
