Seagate has confirmed that they have already prepared their first hard drives from 16 TB helium filled as part of the Exos X16 family, which offer a huge space to store what is needed without relying on unique magnetic recording technologies, implementing other like the HAMR. Apart from these new units, Seagate has also confirmed that its IronWolf and IronWolf Pro lines have been updated with 16 TB versions, so users can now feed their NAS with them.
future we will store more and more data in the cloud, so this class of units will be increasingly necessary. Seagate estimates that by 2025 the planet will need to go up to 175 zettabytes to meet our storage requirements (in 2018 they were 33 zettabytes). The Seagate Exos X16 16 TB is now available for $ 629, which translates to $ 39.31 per terabyte. Remember that thanks to new technologies such as HAMR, the company wants to offer 48 TB disks by 2024.
