By surprise a new portable console has been introduced. It will be called PlayDate and it promises to change the way in which the pocket videogame is understood and enjoyed. The platform has been created by Panic, a company known for publishing games such as Firewatch, which has wanted to go beyond software and create new hardware with the Swedish company Teenage Engineering. The intention of PlayDate is none other than giving shelter to small productions developed by some of the brightest minds in the video game industry.
PlayDate will cost $ 149, will be released in early 2020 and will include 20 videogames that will be distributed throughout their first season. It stands out for its yellow design and square crosshead, a black and white screen, its two buttons and crank, an unprecedented ingenuity in a portable console. Of what little has been announced about the games that will be included in the platform, Crankin’s Time Travel Adventure will be one of those that use only the crank. It is not expected that great details will be offered about the games that will be included in the first season.
What is the reason for not announcing the games it will contain? According to the developer, “we would like to keep them secret until they appear on your Playdate.” Some are short, others long, some experimental, some traditional. a new game delivery, we hope you can not wait to open your gift. “Those who have confirmed their collaboration with PlayDate are Keita Takahashi, Zach Gage, Bennet Foddy or Shaun Inman, creators of Katamari Damacy, SpellTower, Getting Over It and Retro Game Crunch, respectively.
