The Gamelab Honor Award is one of the most prestigious awards given at the Barcelona event. Received by personalities of the category of Amy Hennig, Shinji Mikami, Shuhei Yoshida, Will Wright, Kazunori Yamauchi, Richard Garriott or Hideo Kojima, the turn of 2019 will be for one of the greats of the American industry: Mike Morhaime, co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment and one of the main culprits after games in the category of Warcraft 2, Diablo or Starcraft.
Morhaime has been president of Blizzard since 1998, and he has commanded some of the brightest years of the company, with hits like World of Warcraft or Overwatch on his resume. Morhaime announced last year that he was leaving the company’s presidency, but he has remained in the same as a strategic adviser after the takeover of his new president, J. Allen Brack. Morhaime will receive the Award of Honor at the end of June at Gamelab.
The event’s director, Iván Fernández Lobo, has celebrated the decision in a recent press release: “Mike Morhaime is indisputably one of the most influential people in the history of the game.” Under his leadership, Blizzard Entertainment has become the way people create and enjoy games, and has created interactive experiences and universes that will be remembered forever Blizzard and in general the world of videogames would not be what they are today without the tireless dedication, privileged vision and great passion of Morhaime by this means “
