One of the goals that Bungie has set for the immediate future of Destiny 2 is to improve its depth as an RPG, something that will materialize in September with the arrival of the 2.0 armor system and artifacts. The latter had already appeared in Rise of Iron, the last expansion of the first game, but they will return to Destiny 2 – Shadowkeep with a different dynamic and the intention of renewing character development every few months.
As they explain Mark Noseworthy (producer) and Luke Smith (director) to the Polygon portal, the new artifacts are seasonal objects that can be improved and modified to suit the player to encourage the creation of new roles and character specializations.
With the arrival of a new season, each artifact will be replaced by another with new possibilities, although as explained by its managers, if any specialization becomes very popular among the community, it could return between one and another season. The exact operation of the artifacts is not entirely clear, but in a previous video, since Bungie guaranteed that they would feel like extra exceptional pieces to add to our inventory.
