After just over two months on the market, Anthem has already offered a first look at the Cataclysm, a promising endgame activity that has kept the most hardcore fans since its presentation in 2017. For approximately half an hour of broadcasting it has been explained the operation of the Cataclysm and some detail has been given, but unfortunately many questions remain in the air.
Let’s start with what we know. The Cataclysm is not a permanent dungeon as the incursions of Destiny or The Division (its closest competitors) but rather an ambitious event that takes place in a new area, lasts eight weeks and is updated every few days with new challenges and loot exclusive high level . It is designed to reward the most dedicated players: it is a battle against the clock where there are several objectives to complete before facing a boss, so we will have to kill quickly if we want to take the best possible booty.
The first two weeks of the Cataclysm are a period ” preevent ” That simply adds to a few challenges that were developed in the missions and Bastions that we already know. In addition, they only grant cosmetic objects as a reward. The Cataclysm itself will be available between weeks 3 and 8, with news each week. It will add three missions ” with high quality kinematics ” That will serve to connect the history of the base game with the Cataclysm.
Once we enter the Cataclysm, we will find a large and open area that we explore freely and that includes numerous mysteries and puzzles, as well as activities to perform. The storm causes constant damage to our armor, so we have little time to complete the mandatory and optional objectives that appear. As we make these goals, we earn points, and eventually we unlock a boss battle (Vara). If we defeat her, we double our points. If we do not do it, we will keep what we had when leaving the storm. These points are transformed into a currency to be exchanged for special chests containing high level loot. The booty in question will be updated over time and will add new types of equipment for the rest of the game.
The Cataclysm will be available soon on the impending Anthem test server, which will help BioWare measure satisfaction of the fans before taking it to the official server. For this reason, there is still no exact launch date or an approximate availability window. Since the test server will close from time to time, it will be necessary to pay attention to the BioWare channels to participate.
