RAGE 2 is released this week, the result of the collaboration between id Software and Avalanche Software and although we know that the fever is focused on this picturesque and violent shooter, it is also true that the economy does not always give for the most recent premiere, the game is not perfect or maybe it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, so here are some alternatives that share features with RAGE 2 but add something different, are cheaper or both, without losing that wild and desolate essence that characterizes to the post-apocalyptic titles.
Here you will find everything from the looter shooter, through the third person action game and more, with the notation that games like The Walking Dead, The Last of Us or Frostpunk were omitted, not because they were bad – they are not in any way – but because their post-apocalyptic concepts are too different from RAGE 2 to recommend compatible alternatives, although we are sure that if the tests, you will get an extraordinary experience too.

Fallout 3 If the apparent simplicity of RAGE 2 discourages you, then Fallout 3 (or 4) maybe it’s what you’re looking for. It is an open-world RPG, whose depth and narrative flexibility are simply amazing, allowing you to make your character what you want, save or delete whole settlements from the map, explore a world full of stories, missions and characters, and fight mutants with a unique blend of rawness and humor. His expansions were also excellent and, the best, today must cost very little. The combat is not so fast, but the opposite, but it shares the gore, the extraordinary direction of art and the open world drills with RAGE 2.
Mad Max Work of Avalanche Studios, who worked on RAGE 2, Mad Max is one of the best adaptations from film to video game and shares with RAGE 2 the war of vehicles, as well as the open character of its arid world, same where only the strongest survive. Here the armed combat is quite basic and in the third person, but improving your vehicle, falling in love with its spectacular post-apocalyptic postcards and getting to know its interesting characters will be enough to entertain you for dozens of hours.
RAGE Although it may seem obvious that an alternative to RAGE 2 is its first part, this delivery might be too bad to recommend. Fortunately, RAGE is an excellent shooter that, faithful to id Software pedigree, aged super good and has aspects that lack its sequel, as cooperative missions and multiplayer vehicle combat, although it is uncertain if your community is still large enough to keep these modes active . The open world was not developed and the armed combat was not so frenetic, but if it is not enough for RAGE 2, RAGE is a healthy and very cheap alternative.
Borderlands We mentioned Borderlands, but we could refer to Borderlands 2, and this saga could be considered as the father of shooter looters, thanks to his ingenious mix between FPS and the obsession with the booty of titles like Devil, resulting in a unique concept for his time which is reinforced by a singular appearance, extraordinary script and delightful characters, all in a post-apocalyptic world in the vein of Mad Max and RAGE itself. The battle rate may not be so fast, but the variety of weapons, the setting and personality, definitely make it a highly recommended alternative for RAGE 2.
